You are what you eat (oh, boy)

Da VinciAfter a long hot summer, viagra generic salve Fall is finally upon us. Can’t you feel it in the air? Something about the change in seasons seems to bring out the urge to move, tadalafil to be physical. The world series, FOOTBALL, the NY Marathon.

I see people all year long spending big money to wear sports gear of their favorite professional teams/players. Instead of just dressing like your favorite player why not actually train like them?

Professional sports is a multi-billion dollar a year industry and the difference between first and not placing at all is often miniscule so they can’t afford to spend time on gimmicks.

They are all looking for something to give them an “edge”. More and more often that edge is Chiropractic.

During the final show of the second season of the hit Spike TV series “Ultimate Fighter,” the heavyweight winner Rashad Evans took the time to thank Chiropractic care for relieving his back pain and allowing him to fight that night! THIS WAS NOT A PAID ENDORSMENT! This was a testimonial to chiropractic care.

When former Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler and UFC world heavyweight champion Randy Cotour is asked what his winning formula was he always mentions three things: diet, hard training and Chiropractic care.

Football?

Chiropractic Economics reported that over 95% of teams in the NFL use chiropractors as a regular part of player care. Joe Montana (three time SuperBowl MVP) uses Chiropractic.

Baseball?

Nolan RyanBarry Bonds said, “I think it should be mandatory to see a chiropractor and massage therapist”. He sure must think so, he brought his own.

Golf?

Try Tiger Woods, and who uses his low back more than ‘Ol Tiger???

Boxing?

Former heavy weight champion Evander Holyfield said “I have to have an adjustment before I go into the ring. I do believe in chiropractic. I found that going to a chiropractor three times a week helps my performance” The great Muhammad Ali? Chiropractic.

Olympics?

Chiropractors have been attending doctors at the Olympic Games and at national and world championships in track and field, cycling, volleyball, powerlifting, aerobics, and triathlons for years. Dan O’Brien won the Olympic gold medal in the decathlon at the 1996 Summer games in Atlanta and gold medals in 1991, 1993, and 1995 world championships said that “If it were not for Chiropractic, I would not have won the gold medal”. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Carl Lewis, Andy Roddick, Lance Armstrong (seven time Tour De France winner), the list goes on and on.

In my practice I treat many circus performers and Jazz musicians. They don’t come in because of “back pain”, they need to perform at the top of their game. What’s your game???

“I suffered with back pain, generic viagra neck pain and headaches for many years and Stephan really helped me. Unlike many chiropractors out there, viagra Stephan uses his hands, skill, and experience to pinpoint what needs to be done so that it's effective and never too much. Other chiropractors have actually done damage and made my condition worse. He is also personable, honest, and genuinely wants to help people. I would highly recommend Stephan.” —H.K.

Let food be your medicine

Over the years I have been surprised when a patient that I thought "got it" turns out to be eating poorly and or not exercising. That's like drinking enough good, viagra sale look clean water but not breathing. You kinda want to do both. While Chiropractic is a great foundation for your health plan, viagra usa proper diet is also necessary.

Think that's a new concept? Over two thousand five hundred years ago Hippocrates (often called the father of Western medicine) said "let food be your medicine". Important words then and maybe even more so today.

Obesity is killing us

Over 34% of Americans are 30 pounds or more overweight. A recent study in USA TODAY found that obesity will cost the US health care system $344 BILLION a year to manage with the cost of health hazards now rivaling smoking. Economics aside, being obese can cost you twelve years of your life. Extra weight increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, some types of cancer.

I see patients everyday with herniated discs, degenerated knees and hips that have been complicated, if not caused, by extra pounds. Think about what those extra pounds may be doing to your joints. Just saying.

Chiropractors receive three time more nutritional instruction than MDs

So, who you gonna call? The average Doctor of Medicine only receives 24 hours of nutritional instruction during their entire training. Chiropractors? Try 90 hours — with many continuing their studies post-grad.

Remember during the Regan administration when certain "nutritionists" wanted to tell us that ketchup was a vegetable? Nice try. Even scarier, Coca-Cola has become partners with the American Academy of Family Physcians to promote, and I kid you not, "health education to consumers". You don't suppose that a six figure contribution to the AAFP will influence health care providers to families, do you? Not to be out done, Pepsi seems to be following Coke's lead; a holistic health and wellness group that I belong to on Linkedin recently had a poster promoting an event sponsored by Pepsi.

Pancreatic Cancer is a particularly vicious type of cancer and one that struck close to home, having lost my mother (of blessed memory) to it. The survival rate three years after diagnosis is only 30%, dropping to a mere 5% five years after diagnosis. A recent 14-year study found that drinking only two or more soft drinks a week increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by 87%. When compared to fruit juice, the study found "no statistically significant association between juice consumption and risk of pancreatic cancer."

If not now, when?

So, start slow but start today. Substitute fresh fruit and vegetables for those unhealthy snacks. Get out and exercise more. Come in and get those achy joints checked out. Eat clean fresh food and drink plenty of fresh water.

You'll be surprised how good you can feel.

Until next time, be well.
