I was taking as many as six (6) ibuprofen daily for back and neck pain before I began seeing Dr. Howard-Cooper four years ago. I’ve taken less than 20 TOTAL since that time. I highly recommend his technique.

“When I sprained my back, I wasn’t content to sit at home, take muscle relaxers and Tylenol, and hope that it would all get better. Dr. Howard-Cooper not only helped me to relieve the pain, regain strength and full range of motion in my back. He also taught me how to maintain a healthy back and take good care of myself for years to come.
“In these days of managed care, it is increasingly rare to find someone like Dr. Howard-Cooper, who so actively commits to the care and healing of his patients. Dr. Howard-Cooper has the wisdom to take the time to listen to his patients. He offers the luxury of an in-depth examination and consultation. And he has the skill to convert what he has learned into lasting good health for his patients.”

We’re happy to announce that Dr. Howard-Cooper is now certified in the Cox® Technic system of spinal pain relief management.
Dr. Howard-Cooper offers the evidence-based Cox® Technic system of non-surgical chiropractic protocols for the relief of spine pain due to disc herniation, stenosis and related conditions causing neck, upper back, shoulder, arm, low back and leg pain.
The Cox® Technic flexion-distraction protocols have been scrutinized in federally funded research projects. Flexion-distraction biomechanical effects have been documented — drop in intradiscal pressures, increase in spinal canal area and discal height — and clinical outcomes have been published — superior in pain relief for radiculopathy, better for relief of chronic low back pain, and more effective in reducing the need for healthcare visits for spinal pain in the year after treatment.
Dr. Howard-Cooper proudly provides this non-surgical solution for back pain relief in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, New York.

We work together using Chiropractic, specializing in Cox® flexion-distraction, exercise and nutrition to help your body heal as quickly and completely as possible. We specialize in:
At our office we strive to offer more than the just the treatment of symptoms, the treatment of pain, but the realization of our true potential. Health is more than just the the absence of disease, much more. The World Health Organization (the health authority branch of the U.N.) thinks so too, defining health as being:
“A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
Over the years I have been surprised when a patient that I thought “got it” turns out to be eating poorly and or not exercising. That’s like drinking enough good, clean water but not breathing. You kinda want to do both. While Chiropractic is a great foundation for your health plan, proper diet is also necessary.
Think that’s a new concept? Over two thousand five hundred years ago Hippocrates (often called the father of Western medicine) said “let food be your medicine”. Important words then and maybe even more so today.
Over 34% of Americans are 30 pounds or more overweight. A recent study in USA TODAY found that obesity will cost the US health care system $344 BILLION a year to manage with the cost of health hazards now rivaling smoking. Economics aside, being obese can cost you twelve years of your life. Extra weight increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, some types of cancer.
I see patients everyday with herniated discs, degenerated knees and hips that have been complicated, if not caused, by extra pounds. Think about what those extra pounds may be doing to your joints. Just saying.
So, who you gonna call? The average Doctor of Medicine only receives 24 hours of nutritional instruction during their entire training. Chiropractors? Try 90 hours — with many continuing their studies post-grad.
Remember during the Regan administration when certain “nutritionists” wanted to tell us that ketchup was a vegetable? Nice try. Even scarier, Coca-Cola has become partners with the American Academy of Family Physcians to promote, and I kid you not, “health education to consumers”. You don’t suppose that a six figure contribution to the AAFP will influence health care providers to families, do you? Not to be out done, Pepsi seems to be following Coke’s lead; a holistic health and wellness group that I belong to on Linkedin recently had a poster promoting an event sponsored by Pepsi.
Pancreatic Cancer is a particularly vicious type of cancer and one that struck close to home, having lost my mother (of blessed memory) to it. The survival rate three years after diagnosis is only 30%, dropping to a mere 5% five years after diagnosis. A recent 14-year study found that drinking only two or more soft drinks a week increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by 87%. When compared to fruit juice, the study found “no statistically significant association between juice consumption and risk of pancreatic cancer.”
So, start slow but start today. Substitute fresh fruit and vegetables for those unhealthy snacks. Get out and exercise more. Come in and get those achy joints checked out. Eat clean fresh food and drink plenty of fresh water.
You’ll be surprised how good you can feel.
Until next time, be well.
